Application

Aims to protect the user in a short, limited period. The range of protective suits are great, like materials and properties may be different. Overall it is as follows:

Suits, approved as CE, cat. A (simple design), are to protect against minimal risk. They are used mostly to protect the normal work clothes from dust and dirt, to send signals to the environment or to protect the produced items. The suits are usually very breathable and comfortable in use.
Suits in the cat. 3 (complex design) are to protect against dangerous or harmful influences.

Relevant standards

To obtain a CE marking, as a chemical protective suit in cat. 3, then the suit has to meet one or more material-type test, meet the minimum requirement for the materials physical and chemical characteristics, and be labeled correctly.

To facilitate the selection of protective suits the suits are type labeled according to their protective properties against various forms (see test methods described in the standards):

Type 1: Gas-tight clothing, EN 943-1 and EN 943-2
Type 2: Non gas-tight clothing, EN 943-1
Type 3: Liquid tight clothing, EN 14605 A1: 2009
Type 4: Spray tight clothing, EN 14605 A1: 2009
Type 5: Particle tight clothing, EN 13982-1
Type 6: Limited splashproof clothing, EN 13034

Type 1 and 2 suits are usually made of rubber materials. They are heavy, hot, uncomfortable and expensive to use.
Type 3 and 4 suits are usually made of laminate materials. They are lighter and more mobile than rubber, but they're still hot to use, since the material is not breathable.
Type 5 and 6 suits are usually made of breathable material such as Tyvek Classic, and the suits are quite comfortable to use for longer time.
