Gas Detection
Gas Detection
Application
In most industries there is a need for protection against possible hazards as oxygen insufficiency, explosible and toxic gases. Portable gas detectors and stationary gas detection systems are used for continuous measurement of the dangers that frequently occur in the atmospheric air, and they give alarm as soon as any danger evolves, so the user in time can leave the area.
When working in tanks, containers, confined spaces and sewers, then portable gas detectors are used to analyze whether the working environment is safe before entering the area. Portable gas detectors are available as single or multi-gas instruments, and they unfortunately have the limitation that they can only detect the substances which the sensor or sensors are capable of measuring.
Depending on the number of sensors the instrument can simultaneously detect and measure:
• Lack of oxygen or increased oxygen content
• Dangerous levels of explosive gases and vapors
• Exposure to toxic gases
The most common sensors are:
O2 Oxygen
LEL Lower Explosive Limit
H2S Hydrogen sulfide
CO Carbon monoxide
NH3 Ammonia
CO2 Carbon dioxide
NO2 Nitrogen dioxide
CL2 Chlorine
ClO2 Chlorine dioxide
SO2 Sulfur dioxide
PH3 Phosphine
HCN Hydrogen Cyanide
Portable and stationary instruments
Monitoring of gases in factories and production facilities are now required in most industries. Explosive gases are used as energy, explosive liquids used as raw materials or intermediates. Toxic gases and vapors exist almost always in industrial commodities, they exist as discharge gases.
To protect the production and employees are often required personal protective equipment and gas detection instruments. If personal portable gas detectors do not solve the task, or are considered insufficient, then stationary instruments or measurement systems are needed for automated surveillance.
Stationary instruments are permanently installed; the surveyed areas are determined and safety precautions are automatically activated in a dangerous situation, such as visual and audible alarms, auto-off of the production machines, auto-start of fans, etc. Stationary gas detectors measure continuously; they automatically gives the alarm and control processes.
ICM delivers both portable and stationary instruments. Our service department can install and service stationary instruments for gas detection.
